Our Mission
Linden Cottage began as a quaint little retreat nestled in Beechworth accommodation, surrounded by extensive lawn.
The property spans just short of ½ acre and boasts a variety of fruiting trees and shrubs, natives, deciduous and evergreen ornamentals, as well as perennial and annual flowering plants. This garden design attracts a host of pollinators while creating a vibrant atmosphere. The choice of planting has been based on seasonal delights, local adaptation, yield, and beauty.
The pursuit of healthy, living soil continues to support the vast biodiversity within the garden. The aim of this organic system is to produce healthy, living, structured soil, ultimately benefiting plants, animals, and humans alike.
With a blend of edible and ornamental plant design, the garden remains inviting and intriguing for visitors seeking a nature retreat. Its combination of wild and semi-formal cottage design includes mass plantings of seasonal plants alongside perennial varieties, complemented by hedging favorites such as lavender, rosemary, and thyme.
The Linden Tree
A tree of friendship, love, and loyalty, the linden tree symbolizes my Slovenian roots. This beautiful tree is often planted to commemorate special occasions. My linden tree was planted next to the driveway entrance shortly after I purchased the property, which also serves as a serene nature retreat amidst my Beechworth accommodation. In addition to its sentimental value, the linden flower tea and linden charcoal are known for their health benefits. Each year, we gather the leaves and flowers for our tea, enhancing the garden design of our peaceful haven.
POLLINATORS IN THE GARDEN
A haven for birds and insect pollinators, part of the garden design in this nature retreat is the many small visitors, both regular and seasonal. The usual and familiar magpies, rosellas, along with the tiny beautiful hummingbirds and finches, create a delightful experience for guests seeking Beechworth accommodation.
